Final Video

This is the final version of the video, following the changes that the client had requested. Overall, I think we created a video that looks professional and to an industry standard. I think we fulfilled the client's needs by delivering a lot of information of the festival and enough information to persuade the audience to volunteer.

Editing to Client Feedback

The screenshot above shows how I added titles to the video following the client's wishes. I made sure to use the correct colour as shown in the Brighton Festival logo. I also cut out a lot of footage since the video was originally nearly 5 minutes long, and the client wanted it to be between 2-3 minutes. I managed to cut it down to 2.43 minutes. This reduced a lot of unnecesarry rambles and just stuck to the key points. Peter suggested that I keep it short and snappy. This will also be useful so that the audience don't zone out half way through the video.

I am going home for Christmas now so I won't be able to edit any more for a couple of weeks. There a still a few minor details that need to be changed in the video:
  • Perhaps add sound effects of beach and seagull to the beginning at is sounds very quiet. Or increase the volume of the soundtrack
  • At 0:15 seconds the volume decreases abruptly. We could maybe add some background noise from where Hannah stops talking.
  • At 0:22 could add another cutaway from the festival
  • 0:33 cut down the text as it's way too long to read
  • 0:57 we need to change these cutaways as the client said they're too much like Brighton Fringe
  • 1:48 change this cutaway as it looks a bit random. Could use one of the volunteers instead

Emails about the screening

I sent Ellen an email to apologise for the mishap in the screening. I also sent a copy of the video via YouTube.

The feedback from the Dome was quite positive, we just need to cut some shots out and add a few more titles:

Client screening

I feel as though the client screening today went quite awfully. This was my fault since I did not export the video properly and had to go back and correct it.  I had saved it as a QuickTime MOV file which worked fine on the Mac computers except it was slightly distorted. I thought this would be okay to show in the screening, however the video file didn't work and there was only audio. Subsequently I had to go back and export the video again with the correct settings. This took a lot longer than I had hoped, so long that I missed the screenings. I got it finished just in time to show the client afterwards. However I still felt horribly unprofessional and like I had let the whole team down.

Despite that hiccup, we received generally positive feedback from the client. I also made sure to send the them a copy of the video to look over afterwards.

First draft of Video

This is the first draft of the video, which will be screened to the client tomorrow. I'd say the video is about 90% done. We included quite a lot of footage since the interviewees all gave in depth answers. We still need to add archive footage of the volunteers at the festival, which hopefully the client will send us.

Editing

Ellen emailed me copies of the festival footage via the website WeTransfer. However being uploaded to the internet must have compressed the footage, leaving it in a very  low file size. When I tried to add these videos to the editing timeline, they appeared to be very pixelated compared to the rest of the video. Instead I think it will be better to the use the technique I'd used before which was using the screen capture on QuickTime.

I was able to use the sound from the WeTransfer file from the PSK Trio video as the backing track to our video.

I spent a lot of time cutting up all of the footage we'd filmed and putting it into the right order.

I used markers and comments to clearly point of the different sections of the video. This made it easer to place each of the interview answers and cutaways into the right place. Having the markers will be useful if we need to go back and add or remove anything from each section.

Marketing and Contacting Ellen

Ellen sent us a reminder of Brighton Festival's marketing guidelines. It's important that we follow these rules so that we create a suitable video to client's standards.

I asked for the official footage to some of the videos that we wanted to use as I thought they might have the videos in better quality than online.
