Project Brief

"To produce a short film that celebrates being a volunteer with Brighton Festival – the biggest celebration of art in the year."

The client asked for it to be "heart-felt and original" and makes a connection between Brighton Festival and the local community. It should emphasise Brighton's spirit and eccentricity.

The video would be used on social media platforms such as vimeo, youtube & the Brighton Festival websites. It would be used in order to encourage the public to volunteer for Brighton Festival 2016.

"We would like you to approach this clip on a joyful, inspiring, community level. The desired outcome is to explain the impact/need for Brighton Festival volunteers, why they are such an important part of the Festival and the types of activities they can be involved with as well as talk briefly about the importance of volunteering, building connections, our community in Brighton & Hove and people making and being part of the place they live."

Creative guidance:
All projects must include clear and consistent identity using the correct logo and fonts of Brighton Dome and Festival
Brighton Dome & Festival’s tone of voice is a friendly one. Any music and voice over should reflect this.
Important we communicate:
It’s exciting, hard work!
Arts can change the world, come and be part of that!
We couldn’t do it without you!
Be ready for anything!

Look and feel:
Engaging, inspiring, unique, clever, local, fresh, diverse
We’d also anticipate the following qualities to be part of the style and tone: Clean, punchy, contemporary, fun, elegantly simple and alluringly edgy

Other examples given from the client:

  • Shows people engaging with the festival and having a fun time
  • Shows people of different ages, emphasing its diversity
  • Gives an insight to the volunteer's roles

  • Shows a montage of the city of Edinburgh
  • Gives footage from the festival and makes it look artistic
  • Filmed and edited in great quality, e.g. focus pulls
